Hyundai Donates to Expand Child Passenger Safety in Metro Detroit

Hyundai Motor America is continuing its commitment to child passenger safety with a $25,000 donation to Children’s Foundation of Michigan. The donation supports the Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s Injury Prevention Program and helps expand access to car seat safety resources for families throughout Metro Detroit.

The donation is part of Hyundai Hope, Hyundai Motor America’s corporate social responsibility initiative focused on supporting organizations that improve health, safety and wellbeing in communities across the country.

Supporting Safer Car Seat Use for Metro Detroit Families

Properly installed car seats and booster seats play an important role in protecting young passengers in the event of a crash. However, many parents and caregivers may not be aware that even small installation or sizing mistakes can affect how effectively a car seat protects a child.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly half of car seats and booster seats are installed incorrectly or used improperly.

To help address this issue, Hyundai and Children’s Hospital of Michigan recently hosted a car seat safety check event at Children’s Hospital of Michigan-Troy. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) worked directly with parents and caregivers to provide education and hands-on assistance.

During the event, technicians helped families:

• Check car seats for proper installation
• Make sure the seat is appropriate for the child’s size
• Check car seats for expiration dates
• Identify manufacturer recalls
• Learn how to properly secure children in their seats
• Receive free replacement car seats when needed

These hands-on safety checks give families practical information they can use every time they travel with their children.

Hyundai Hope Continues Making an Impact

The partnership between Hyundai Hope and Children’s Hospital of Michigan has been helping families in Metro Detroit since 2024.

Since the partnership began, the program has supported 346 children through 87 car seat inspections or correctionsand helped distribute 264 new car seats to families in need.

Hyundai’s continued support helps make important child passenger safety resources more accessible to families while providing education that can help prevent serious injuries.

“When children are properly secured in the right car seat, the risk of serious injury or death drops by 70 percent,” said Andrew Stein, president and CEO of Children’s Foundation of Michigan. “Prevention is an important part of protecting children’s health and well-being.”

For new parents and caregivers, choosing and installing the right car seat can feel overwhelming. Factors such as a child’s age, height, weight and developmental stage can all play a role in determining the appropriate restraint.

Through partnerships like this one, Hyundai Hope is helping families gain access to both the equipment and education they need to make informed decisions about child passenger safety.
