Reston, VA — Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today that the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan has earned a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which runs the government’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). NHTSA has provided consumers with vehicle safety information since 1978.

The 2025 Tiguan joins the 2025 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, ID.4, Jetta, and Jetta GLI as Volkswagen vehicles with a 5-Star overall safety rating.

The Highway Safety Act created NHTSA to reduce crash-related deaths, injuries, and costs, and introduced the 5-Star Safety Ratings to guide consumers in choosing safer vehicles. The rating results are relayed to consumers using an easily recognizable star rating system from one to five, with five being the best a vehicle can achieve.

Volkswagen continues to prioritize passenger safety as a cornerstone of its brand identity. To help protect occupants, the all-new 2025 Tiguan, now in its third generation, introduces four new airbags: driver knee, center, and dual rear side, for a total of ten, with side curtain airbags featuring a larger deployment zone.

Additionally, all trims come standard with Volkswagen’s sophisticated IQ.DRIVE® Level 2 driver assistance features, including Travel Assist (Level 2 semi-automated driving assistance), Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian & Cyclist Monitoring), Active Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist. Light Assist, Park Distance Control, and Exit Warning are standard, while Park Assist Plus is available.
